Artist Statement
I am interested in the relationship between the physical and metaphysical. My work addresses where and how these two worlds intersect—not simply in the imagery itself but also in the technical use of the medium. My formal use of paint alludes to passages of both the concrete and indeterminate and I seek to merge the two to find a spiritual tension and excitement. Much of my work begins with autobiographical narratives and attempts to distill those narratives into a rhetorical and emblematic form. I create imagery from memories, old black-and-white family photographs, and life reference.
